About and methodology

These are calculators, not advice. Every one of them shows the formula it used, cites where that formula came from, and states what it cannot tell you.

Where the numbers come from

Each calculator is built on formulas published by named veterinary sources — the 2021 AAHA nutrition guidelines, the Pet Nutrition Alliance, the MSD Veterinary Manual, and Bond Vet. The source is written next to the formula on the page, and listed again under Sources.

Nothing here is invented, and nothing is scraped from another calculator. Where two sources disagree, the page says so rather than silently picking one.

How the data is checked

The breed table is the only place this site makes claims about living animals rather than reproducing a published equation, so it is held to a higher standard. Every row links to the specific breed standard it came from, and a script fetches each cited page and compares the values before the site builds. If an entry has no source, the build fails. The test suite runs the same comparison.

Corrections

If a number here is wrong, it is wrong in a way that matters — someone may feed an animal based on it. Corrections are the most useful thing you can send. Tell us the page, the figure, and the source you are working from, and we will either fix it or explain why we read the source differently.

Corrections, questions and source suggestions: corrections@nnpets.com. See also the privacy policy — the short version is that there is nothing to collect, because the calculators never send us anything.
